Belleville Fire and Rescue Volunteer Fire Fighters – Fire Prevention officers will be hitting the rural areas of Belleville on September 26, 2020.
Farm and barn public fire safety education materials will be hand-delivered to mailboxes that have farm and barn occupancy.
Barns and farms that have animals are especially being targeted as well as agriculture operations.
“The message being delivered is to assist our rural community in keeping their barns/farms and animals safe from fire” says Fire Chief Mark MacDonald. “Ontario has experienced devastating losses of property and animals over the last five year.”
“These tragedies can mean legacy losses – life changing results and sometimes unrecoverable business losses for our farmers,” added MacDonald.
The material being delivered to our rural community contains a “Barn & Property Fire Safety Self-Assessment Form” that is very helpful in identifying potential fire hazards.
The package also contains a Barn Fire Safety Check List that is useful in observing potential fire hazards.
Also included in the information is a page on “Investing in Barn Fire Prevention” from a low – medium and high investment perspective.
There is also another page with links to other resources for preventing barn fires and links to different agriculture ministries that may also be used in preventing barn and farm fires.
Please take the time to look over this material and take action to prevent a fire in your barn or farm.
