Everything and everybody was lined up.
The event was literally a week away (September 26).
And then COVID-19 reared its ugly head.
The provincial government, citing a recent alarming surge in infections, lowered the number for unmonitored events to 25 or less.
This move has led to the cancellation of Porchfest Belleville, an annual and very popular outdoor fall event put on by the Rotary Club of Belleville.
Some 36 venues, most on the east hill and a few in the Downtown District, were set to stage live music of various types from local musicians.
The Rotary Club has been warned inspections on gatherings will be taking place, and it simply cannot muster the resources needed to monitor and police the widespread event.
