Almost anyone can imagine how a young boy would feel about having his bicycle stolen just two days after receiving it as an award
for being the top youth fundraiser for Belleville General Hospital.
That was the plight Peyton Petrus found himself in recently.
Enter Belleville police Sergeant Kyle King and the members of “A” Platoon.
Last month, the officers dug into their own pockets to raise the money to buy Peyton a new bike, exactly like the one he’d received from the hospital.
Acting Chief Mike Callaghan told a meeting of the Belleville Police Services Board Thursday that it was important to recognize Sergeant King and “A” Platoon for this random act of kindness because “especially now when police services are under intense scrutiny and facing a lot of criticism we need to highlight the many good things we do for our community that go above and beyond what just the job calls for.”
