The Minister of Education was a guest on the Lorne Brooker Show on Tuesday.
Stephen Lecce discussed COVID-19 and the safety of students.
He says solidarity is critical going through these tough times.
“We are facing an unprecedented challenge. We have never seen this and there is no playbook for this. I know in our hearts we all have a singular objective, which is to stick together and to come together and try and get through this as a team.”
He says whatever is required is what will be done.
” So right across the board we are doing everything we can. Obviously if we got to go remote, it is a difficult decision, but we will do what is required to keep the kids safe. If there is once consensus in the medical community, it is that our kids need to be learning, they need to be in school.”
Lecce says the work done by educators and staff has been incredible so far.
“PPE, hand sanitation, signage, cohorting. We have really stepped up with the health protocol, that has been fully endorsed by the Chief Medical Officer of Health. Obviously we need to be mindful, not only of what we do in our schools, which is important, but the broader community spread. That is the real variable, the real issue here.”
