This past Friday, Saturday and Sunday saw the 26th playing of the Haggarty Cup at the Bay of Quinte Golf Club.
The match play tournament is named in honour of Max Haggarty. It is a Ryder Cup Format, with 18 players on each of Team Mills and Team Haggarty.
And while the competition was important, the event was more about recognizing the life and contributions of Max Haggarty who recently passed away.
Max and ITS – International Truckload Services – were instrumental in ensuring the continued growth of this event and making it arguably the most popular team competition in the Quinte Region.
Pictures commemorating the life of Max Haggarty were prominent throughout the golf course, and the opening ceremonies included many players from past events, along with friends and family of Max.
Max’s son Rob, spoke passionately about his father and what he had meant to his family, friends and ITS.
On Day 1 – Foursomes – Team Mills took a 5 ½ to 3 ½ lead in points.
Day 2 – Fourball – was a saw-off, leaving Team Mills with a 10 to 8 lead heading into the Singles Matches on Sunday.
On Sunday when the rain finally ended and play resumed, the tournament came down to the last hole of the day, with Team Mills narrowly avoiding a playoff and winning the event 18 ½ to 17 ½ points.
