An annual ceremony commemorating the tragedy that became known as “nine-eleven” will not be held at the Belleville Fire Department’s headquarters Friday.
The decision to cancel the ceremony was taken out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists from al-Quaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes deliberately crashing them into two towers at the World Trade Center in Manhattan, the Pentagon complex in Virginia, and a field in Pennsylvania.
In all, nearly 3,000 people from 93 nations lost their lives.
