COVID-19 did not stop the tee off at the 21st annual Wing Commander’s Golf Tournament in support of the United Way Hastings and Prince Edward County.
Base Commander Colonel Ryan Deming says it is the first event for the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign season.
This is our signature event for our GCWCC campaign. Last year and this year again we are going to make sure that all funds raised here at 8 Wing CFB Trenton go to our local community.

CFB Trenton Chief Warrant Officer Dan Baulne says he has to keep an eye on the Wing Commander at Roundel Glen.
I want to make sure the Commander gets on the fairways, and not in the bush like he normally does. I want to make sure that he doesn’t use any profanity when he doesn’t get what he wants on the green. I would say the Commander is a bit of a better golfer than I am. He has had a bit more practice. I think that I just started again last year after many years. There is some good rivalry out there. We will see some good shots, and maybe not so good shots. It will be a good time for sure.

Brandi Hodge is the United Way HPE Executive Director. She says the base is critical to the success of their mission.
Typically they are right over $100,000 each year, which is a massive contribution to our campaign, and I think to the morale of the base, and to the health and well-being of the community. It is also about having the uniform standing behind the United Way campaign, and how that leverages other support.
The total funds raised from the tournament will not be known until the GCWCC Campaign wraps up in January.
