If council approves, Quinte West could have a building designated as a cooling centre on very hot summer days.
Quinte West’s Corporate and Financial Services Committee is recommending that the lobby of the Duncan MacDonald Arena serve as the city’s official cooling station.
It also recommended that the centre be activated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. after two consecutive days of temperatures of 31 degress or higher or humidex values of 35 degrees or higher.
To date, city hall has been used as a cooling station.
