A local police officer is being praised for an act of heroism.
Constable Scott Tinsley of the Belleville Police Service is being recognized at a ceremony Monday morning for being a finalist and runner-up for the fifth annual Police Association of Ontario’s “Hero of the year” award.
Last September, police were called about a woman being abducted and threatened in a vehicle travelling through Belleville. Police chased the vehicle that eventually crashed into fencing across from CFB Trenton.
Constable Tinsley was one of the officers who risked their life to help save the woman.
The award is open for nominations from the public annually to help recognize police service personnel who went above and beyond in the line of duty.
Belleville police are recognizing him at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at the Belleville Police Service building which will be attended by MPP Todd Smith.
