OPP in Quinte West are reminding drone owners to fly responsibly and follow the rules, after having to investigate a number of incidents in recent weeks.
Officers have been called to deal with drones flying illegally over private properties, or too close to CFB Trenton and police say that could lead to some serious implications.
If you put an aircraft at risk, fly where you’re not allowed, or put anyone in danger with your drone, you could face fines or jail time and all drone operators must follow the Criminal Code and Trespass to Property Act as well.
Here are some drone safety tips from Transport Canada:
Always fly your drone…..
- Below 400 feet (122 metres) above the ground
- At least 100 feet (30 metres) away from vehicles, vessels, and the public
- At least 5.6 km away from any airport, or areas where aircraft take off and land
- Away from areas where operation could interfere with police or first responders
- During daylight hours
- Within your sight at all times
Police say anyone who wants to report illegal drone activity should make detailed notes and contact the non-emergency detachment number (1-888-310-1122), and never try to shoot or throw projectiles to knock drones out of the air.
