Officials at Bath Institution near Kingston say an inmate died in custody on Friday.
Prison officials say William Cummer had been in custody since November 2016, serving a sentence of 12 years for robbery, break and enter, possession of a weapon and uttering threats.
No other details were released but staff say, as in all cases of an inmate dying in custody, the Correctional Service of Canada will be reviewing what happened and the police and coroner have been notified.
Staff say Cummer’s family has been notified as well.
