Nineteen people are facing charges after a large pot bust in Trent Hills.
The OPP and Community Street Crime Units from Northumberland, Peterborough and City of Kawartha Lakes executed a search warrant Wednesday at a rural property south of Hastings. The search yielded nearly 2,000 marijuana plants, $920 in Canadian money, a tractor and video surveillance equipment.
Before the warrant was executed, police stopped a rental truck leaving the property. The truck had 610 pounds of cannabis inside with a potential street value of approximately $300,000.
Forty-eight-year-old Jin Feng Chan, 45-year-old Shu Zhu Chan, 53-year-old Yu Hua Chan, 36-year-old Yong Chun Du, 37-year-old Alfred Jing Gao, 32-year-old Jun Ping Hang, 48-year-old Jun Li, 54-year-old Pin Zhu Li, 48-year-old Xi Mei Li, 62-year-old Li Xin Lin, 35-year-old Li Ling, 38-year-old Li Yun Liu, 53-year-old Zhu Xin Liu, 33-year-old Xiao Yang , 50-year-old Xiufeng Yang, 57-year-old Yuxia Zheng all from Trent Hills, as well as 55-year-old Ming Guang Wu of North York and 40-year-old Hang Wang of Scarborough have all been charged with:
- Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four plants at one time in dwelling-house
Alfred Jing Gao and Xiao Yang were additionally charged with:
- Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling
- Possession for the purpose of distributing
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The driver of the truck stopped before the search warrant, 50-year-old Ququan Chen from Quinte West was arrested and charged with:
- Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four plants at one time in dwelling-house
All of the accused will appear in court in Cobourg on October 28.
