The Wellington Dukes will lose a veteran piece of their blue line, but for a good reason, as Brett Humberstone has committed to play this season at Long Island University.
The defenceman, who spent two years in Wellington, will join the Brooklyn New York-based university for its inaugural season in NCAA Division 1 hockey.
Humberstone was an alternate captain in his second year in Wellington, notching 11 goals and 46 assists over 103 career games with the Dukes.
He also had 12 points in the Dukes’ run to the OJHL Buckland Cup Final in 2018/19 and had a goal in this season’s playoffs, before the league was shut down due to the pandemic.
