A Richmond Hill man has been charged after police in the Port Hope area had multiple reports of gun shots this past weekend.
Calls came in around 4:00 p.m. from the Garden Hill area, where residents reported stray bullets had hit buildings and trees on their properties.
When officers arrived they could hear the sound of gunshots coming from east of the property and police were eventually tipped off by Port Hope firefighters nearby, that a group of men were target shooting in a field on Grist Mill Road.
The Central Region Forensics Team was called in and officers ended up seizing a few guns and ammunition.
The registered owner of the guns, a 36-year-old man, was charged with careless use of a firearm and released with an October 28 court date in Cobourg.
OPP are reminding registered gun owners to be responsible when firing and always be sure of your aim, your line of fire and what’s beyond your target.
