The Learning Foundation is on the receiving end of some funding from Hastings County.
The Community and Human Services Committee met on Wednesday morning and voted to reallocate $38,000 for the purchase of new computers for students.
Hastings County received $54,000 this year for the Komputers for Kids program through the Social Assistance Restructuring fund but after 21 years, the program has ceased operation.
For the past 14 years, the program has been managed by two people and with the departure of one member earlier this year and the recent retirement of the original founder, the program has now ceased operation, with remaining funds estimated after closure costs to be approximately $38,000 for 2020.
The funds will support the Learning Foundation’s Bring Your Own Device program for those who cannot afford the cost of their own computer.
