Following the province’s announcement on July 30 that schools will reopen in the fall, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has finalized its return to school plan.
The highlights include staggered start dates for kindergarten and secondary students, and a technique the school board is calling “Quadmestering” which allows two 150 minute instructions periods separated by a lunch break instead of the usual four. For the first 45 days students will have their period one class in the morning and their period three class in the afternoon followed by two days for exams. The second “Quadmester” will have the students taking their period two class in the morning and period four class in the afternoon with the same examination format.
Families will also have the option to pick remote learning. Remote learning students will have a mix of live and scheduled online learning sessions.
Students in grades four to 12 will be expected to wear non-medical or cloth masks at all times inside the school including hallways and other common areas. Masks are strongly encouraged for students in kindergarten to grade three. Physical distancing will be provided as much as possible within the limits of a school setting.
Families and staff will perform daily screening of students before school. Temperature checks will not be done at the school. All intramural and extracurricular sports are cancelled for the fall.
For further information, the full plan is laid out on the ALCDSB website.
