Residents of Sheba’s Island say a temporary no parking zone on Winn’s Drive is just a temporary fix to a bigger issue.
Two residents, Don Mayne and Lawrie Ackerman, addressed council on Tuesday night during a regular council meeting and asked them to look into the general issues of waterparks and enforce by-law issues such as parking, noise and garbage complaints coming from the West Lake Waterpark.
CAO Marcia Wallace told councillors staff can bring a report forward looking into the general issue of waterparks in the municipality as well as have by-law officer look into the number of complaints and issues raised.
Mayne told council during his deputation that cars, instead of parking, are now idling on the side of the road allowing passengers to unload their vehicle before heading off to find parking elsewhere, and then the entire process begins again at the end of the day.
Ackerman says traffic has been about the same this year even though the inflatable waterpark is closed because the Sandbanks is being closed so early in the morning some days.
Three residents of Sheba’s Island also spoke during the public comment period in support of the deputations and noted property owners can no longer enjoy their own property because of the issues sparked by the expanding waterpark.
A staff report is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
