Hundreds of area residents have signed a petition against a proposal for a new Potters Creek residential development in Belleville..
The application for rezoning a parcel of land in the Avonlough Road area calls for a total of 235 housing units in a number of forms.
This would include 36 family residential lots, 34 townhouse units, an apartment block with 165 units in three four-storey buildings.
Eight people spoke against the plan at Monday night’s virtual meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee, after consultant Ruth Ferguson Aulthouse presented the developer’s plan.
Cameron McFadden introduced a petition he said contained 234 names opposing the plan.
McFadden said the development was “not needed and not acceptable.”
The issues include impact on school capacity, increased traffic, increased noise, overcrowding of existing parks and depreciation of home values.
One resident argued the increased traffic would create problems and the development should be deferred until after a traffic study is completed.
Other concerns raised surrounded the impact on the Hastings Park subdivision which will be next to the development and may share roadways.
A Hastings Park resident expressed concern about the increased residential density.
Staff is expected to consider the housing summit resolutions when dealing with the application.
A report will come back to the c0mmittee at its next meeting.
