The Hastings-Prince Edward area’s streak of 74 days without a positive COVID-19 test has come to an end.
HPE Public Health says it has confirmed a positive case of the coronavirus in a local resident who recently “returned from travel outside of the country” and officials say the case is not related to local spread, or with CFB Trenton.
The new case becomes the 44th confirmed case since testing began.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Alexa Caturay says the positive test is a stark reminder that work in preventing the spread isn’t done, especially with another long weekend upon us.
Everyone is reminded to stay home if you’re sick, maintain physical distancing requirements, wear a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible, wash your hands and screen yourself regularly for symptoms.
If you think you may be infected by the virus, you should get tested at one of the local testing centres around the region.
