The Municipality of Tweed’s finances are in great shape.
Tweed council heard a report from its auditors Tuesday night showing operating budget surpluses, strong reserve funds, relatively low property taxes, and very little debt.
At the end of last year, Tweed’s long-term debt load worked out to only $3.00 per household.
Mayor Jo-Anne Albert says despite the almost non-existent debt the community is still getting work done, pointing to the upgraded Hawkins Bay bridge which should be finished soon.
Tweed could be taking on more debt in the near future as council looks to expand it’s sewage treatment capacity to meet future development demands.
Below are some of the graphs shown to council by auditors Baker Tilly. Municipalities used for comparison are considered similar in makeup to Tweed.
