Many residents in urban Belleville are concerned about speeding on streets near their homes.
At its meeting Monday city council will be asked to approveĀ a “traffic calming” policy that would work to slow down drivers in local neighbourhoods.
There are many ways that “traffic calming” can take place, including passive signs, and more noticeable features like rumble strips, curbing, and speed bumps.
City of Belleville staff is recommending a pilot project start next year.
As can be seen in the diagram below, a “traffic calming” policy will require a lot of input from the public on its need and effectiveness.
