Hospice Quinte has a high success rate in enabling people nearing the end of their lives to die at home.
In its 35th annual report, Hospice Quinte says that in the past year only 24% percent of its clients died in hospital, the majority being able to stay at home with their families.
In Ontario just over 50% of people died in hospital while nationally 67% spend their last days under hospital care.
Meanwhile, fundraising efforts continue to pay for the construction and operation of a six-bed regional hospice in Bayside.
The Hospice Care Centre is scheduled to open in the fall of next year.
