A $4 million infrastructure project broke ground Wednesday morning.
The pavement was broken on Avondale Road in the west end of Belleville.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk says it is a complete road reconstruction.
Councillor Garnet Thompson says it has been on the CAA Worst Roads list for a long time.
The hope is to complete Avondale Road from Dundas Street West to Harder Drive by late spring next year.
$3.5 million of the funds came from gas tax revenue, with the other $500,000 being financed by the municipality.
