Financial concerns have led City of Belleville staff to recommend that council not enter into a partnership to try and attract family doctors to work at Belleville General.
Early in the year, Quinte Health Care management formally requested some financial and other support from the city to recruit more general practitioners for the hospital.
However, at its meeting Monday, council will see a staff report saying there’s only enough money in the physician recruitment budget to attract two more physicians for work in the community.
Staff believes the COVID-19 pandemic could lessen revenue streams normally used to fund the recruitment program and is recommending council not expand it any further at this time.
