The hot dry summer is causing major problems for farmers across this part of Eastern Ontario.
“The corn has just curled up.” That’s the word from Lloyd Crowe of the Grain Growers of Eastern Ontario. “Soybeans and corn are all suffering. Even the wheat. The wheat hasn’t had rain in a couple of weeks. It’s usually a good crop but it’s going down hill fast.”
Crowe, a Prince Edward County farmer, tells Quinte News it’s bad news for dairy farmers as well.
Crowe says farmers from Peterborough, Belleville, Lennox and Addington are “in shock” about how dry it’s been.
He hopes they are all covered with insurance.
“It’s almost too late for some crops. And the wells are going dry.”
