On July 2, 2020 shortly before 5:00 a.m., officers with the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a sudden death at a home on Mary Street in Picton.
Members of the Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Service were already on the scene and a 47-year-old female had been pronounced as deceased. The victim has been identified as Leanne Champion of Picton. A post mortem examination has been performed, but further testing will be conducted by Ontario Forensic Pathology Services and Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
As a result of the ongoing investigation a search warrant was executed in the City of Belleville on July 2, 2020, with the assistance of the Belleville Police Service. Two individuals have been arrested and charged.
Lisa Bennett, age 40 of Belleville, Ontario has been charged with Trafficking in a Schedule 1 substance. The accused has been remanded in custody until an appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 6, 2020.
Kody Aspeck, age 31 of Belleville, Ontario has been charged with Trafficking in a Schedule 1 substance and Fail to comply with a Probation Order. The accused has been remanded in custody until an appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 7, 2020.
The investigation continues with members of the Prince Edward County OPP Crime Unit, Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
