The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit has issued a heat warning as the hot and humid weather we are currently experiencing is expected to last through Sunday.
Residents are advised that extremely hot weather can lead to heat-related illnesses.
During hot weather, make efforts to visit neighbours, friends, and older family members frequently, especially those at higher risk, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated.
The City of Belleville has activated their cooling centre because of the heat wave.
The cooling centre will be open today (Thursday) until Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Visitors are asked to enter the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre through the doors facing Cannifton Road (the building’s west side).
Extra precautions are in place to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 among those using the facility including:
- Security and city staff on site
- Visitors will be screened and asked to sign in upon entry
- Physical distancing will be in place
- Washrooms will be available and cleaned hourly
- Masks of face coverings are encouraged
