What’s old is new again.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made the Belleville Chamber of Commerce rethink a popular food event hosted in the city.
Normally, during the second weekend in July, the Belleville Waterfront and Multicultural Festival takes over Zwick’s Park. This year there was the thought of cancelling the event until organizers decided to take the event back to its roots, where people travelled the city to try different foods.
Being dubbed Curbside Culture, a take-out food adventure, the event July 10, 11 and 12 will feature multiple locations offering a variety of foods from different countries.
Passports will guide people to all the locations and offer the chance to win a prize by visiting each location where the answer to that country’s trivia question will be posted and then participants can drop their answers off at the Log Cabin at the end of the weekend to be entered in a draw.
Chilangos is a prime example of how traditional Mexican food was introduced to Belleville and is now a local favourite restaurant in the Downtown District.
Jim’s Pizzeria and India Curry House are also regulars at Waterfront so moving to their restaurant locations this year wasn’t a stretch.
A volunteer with the group from Tibet will be serving momos and Chinese food from her restaurant at the Oriental Wok & Himalayan Restaurant.
Thai food will be served at the Fairgrounds, alongside a new group of volunteers from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church who will feature German bratwurst & strudel.
Jerkebago’s food truck will serve from the Fairgrounds location as well as treat trucks Squeezy Lemonade and Beavertails.
Mr. Zed’s in the Downtown District will represent Greece.
The Boathouse (& Pier) & Sans Souci will round out the taste experience by featuring some Canadian favourites from Atlantic Canada and Quebec.
Passports are available at the Log Cabin, 5 Moira St. East or online at https://www.bellevillewaterfrontfestival.com/photos/custom/J26291_54053.pdf
Follow the event on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/2319254885043711/ and watch for more details on each country’s background and menu items.
Each venue will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and have a tasting feature at $10 or less so you can try a few over the three days.
