The City of Belleville and Prince Edward County received some federal funding for this year’s Canada Day celebrations.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis announced $25,784 through the Celebrate Canada program.
Prince Edward County will receive $11,720 and Belleville will receive $14,064.
The funding will enable the municipalities of Belleville and Prince Edward County to host Canada Day events to celebrate the 153 anniversary of Confederation.
Ellis says the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way that we will be celebrating Canada Day this year, but thanks to this funding from Canadian Heritage, Belleville and Prince Edward County are able to adjust their events to include virtual celebrations.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk says they have creative options in place to ensure the community will still have the opportunity to recognize how fortunate we are to live in the wonderful country we do and the flexibility for use toward virtual activities which is ideal during this time.
Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson says they can still celebrate our national spirit and pride in a variety of exciting ways thanks to this funding.
This year more than ever, Canada Day is an important national celebration bringing Canadians together, even if it is done virtually.
