COVID-19 caused a setback to some city of Belleville projects, but they are catching up now.
The city had three major projects underway, and some going out to tender when the coronovirus lockdown took effect.
Manager of Engineering Ray Ford tells Quinte News three major projects, Bell Boulevard, the Moira Street West watermain, and the Sagonaska Bridge rehabilitation, already underway, were able to continue.
“We were able to work with the contractors and develop a health and safety plan.”
Some projects that were out to tender were put on hold.
He explained, “We did have some projects that were out to tender, or we were getting bids on, that we had to delay the closing of those contracts because we were trying to manage the issues around COVID-19.”
Ford says they have been caught up now and are underway.
He pointed out, “Council has now awarded those projects, specifically the Avondale Road project…that contract should be underway very soon.
Repair sewer project on Newberry Streeet that we had to get underway, which has been awarded. We’re going to be putting bike paths and sidewalks on Adam Street and Universty Avenue. Managed to get that one awarded as well.”
Ford added that all of them are following COVID-19 health requirements.
