Councillors in Prince Edward County will hear a presentation tomorrow (Thursday) regarding the Norris Whitney Bridge and the preliminary design for its rehabilitation.
WSP Canada Group Limited Consultant Manager Brent Gotts will recommend, during the Committee of the Whole meeting, the bridge be twinned to the east.
The report suggests this will cause the least impact to the natural environment and mitigate potential constructability issues associated with construction on the causeway.
Current existing issues with the bridge include the bridge deck requiring major work, long term traffic disruptions because of the rehabilitation, limited active transportation facilities and high traffic volumes that warrant additional capacity on the bridge.
The bridge construction would take place in three stages: the construction of the new bridge, the rehabilitation of the old bridge, and the opening of both bridges with southbound traffic on the west bridge and northbound traffic on the east bridge.
Council will meet in person at Highland Hall in Wellington and the meeting will be live streamed beginning at 1 p.m.
