Quinte West OPP have been dealing with a string of reported rental frauds over the past three weeks.
Investigators say victims have been responding to home rental ads on various internet sites and don’t end up meeting the landlord, or touring the property, despite sending deposits.
In other instances the prospective renter is told that a key and rental agreement would be mailed out and never comes, or they arrive to view a property, and someone is already living there.
Police say if you’re looking for a place to rent you should always meet the landlord, or representative in person, always get a tour before giving a deposit and tnever give any personal information or money, before confirming the property is actually available for rent.
