Belleville Police Service responded to 68 calls for service from June 16, 2020 at 5 a.m. to June 17, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Mischief
On June 16, 2020 at 7:30 a.m., police attended a west end residence with regards to damage to a vehicle. Investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Belleville resident Zachary Martin who was released a short time later on an appearance notice with a court date of August 27 to answer to the charge of mischief.
Arrest on Warrant
On June 16, 2020 at approximately 9:20 p.m., police observed a male walking on Bridge St. W. who was found to have a warrant for his arrest for breach of probation. Thirty-four-year-old Stirling resident Matthew Johnston was arrested on the strength of the warrant and taken to The Belleville Police Service where he was later released on an undertaking with a court date of July 30 to answer to the charge.
Breach of Undertaking
On June 16, 2020 at approximately 9 p.m., police received information with regards to a 15-year-old male who was in Belleville in contravention of conditions as a result of criminal charges of threats that were laid against him on May 31 of this year. Furthermore, the male was reported as missing by The Durham Regional Children’s Aid Society. The male was located by police in the area of Riverside Park and arrested for breaching his undertaking and taken to The Belleville Police Service. Durham Regional CAS was contacted and the male was returned to them after being released on another undertaking. He was given a court date of July 28 to answer to the charge.
Three Day Suspension
On June 17, 2020 at 12:20 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Dundas St. W. of a vehicle due to its poor driving. As a result of the driving observed by the officer and the 17-year-old female driver’s physical indicators, police conducted a standard field sobriety test on the Stirling resident who had also admitted to smoking marijuana. The driver failed the roadside sobriety test and was arrested for impaired driving by drug. After attempts to obtain the services of a Drug Recognition Expert went in vain, she was not charged criminally however she was charged with careless driving and issued a three-day driver license suspension.
