A 55-year-old man from Whitby has been charged after a RIDE check near Big Apple Drive on the weekend.
Northumberland OPP were on the eastbound 401 exit on Saturday morning and when the vehicle came to a stop, officers believed the driver was showing signs of being impaired.
The driver then performed a field sobriety test and did poorly, resulting in his arrest for impaired operation.
Further investigation led to the man being in possession of bear spray and James Sinclair was additionally charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of failure to comply with a release order.
He appeared in court Sunday for a show cause hearing.
