A wide-ranging multi-faceted business recovery plan will be up for Belleville council’s approval in the near future.
At a ZOOM meeting this morning (Thursday) council’s Economic and Destination Development Committee approved the plan, created because of the serious economic effects the COVID-19 restrictions have had not only locally but worldwide.
Committee Chair Ryan Williams stressed that organizations involved in the plan shouldn’t be stepping on each other’s toes.
“We need to have our staff contacting organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, BDIA and the Regional Marketing Board to make sure we’re not duplicating our efforts”.
Among the recommendations from city staff in the plan are a shop local campaign, E-Commerce support, encouraging retraining, the speeding up of planning approvals, converting unused commercial space into residential space, including affordable housing, and a focus on tourist attraction.
There were no dollar figures associated with the plan but specific intiatives with costs would be brought before council for its final approval before projects would move forward.
