The Belleville General Hospital Foundation was able to surpass its fundraising budget in 2019, bringing in close to $3.4 million for new equipment and upgrades at BGH.
The foundation released its annual report this week, showing the majority of that cash was brought in through large donations ($5,000 or more each), with legacy gifts, community events, and smaller community donations (under $5,000 each) making up the rest.
Executive Director Steve Cook tells Quinte News it was a benchmark year for the foundation.
It’s the first time the foundation has put out a full rundown of its fundraising operations in about nine years and Cook says it was and continues to be important to show the community where that money comes from and how it’s used.
He added that with COVID-19 restrictions and spin-offs, some of the big fundraising events for this coming year are being postponed or cancelled, which will lead to some challenges moving forward.
Cook says while he knows times will be tough for many regular or potential donors this year, it’s important for the community to continue to support the many important projects still underway.
He says those types of projects, especially the ICU expansion, would be vital pieces to supporting the community in the event of a second wave, or another widespread public health emergency.
Cook says it’s important for the foundation to continue with its “donor-centric approach” moving through 2020 and beyond.
