Belleville’s mayor has called on city residents to understand this summer will be different, even with the loosening of some provincial COVID-19 rules for this area.
Speaking at city council’s virtual meeting on Monday, just hours after the province announced the loosening of some lockdown rules, Mayor Mitch Panciuk outlined some of the changes.
He emphasized the city has not yet figured out exactly how it will all work, but will make an announcement when this is a little clearer.
One of the issues is the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
He added, “Currenty the George Street boat launch public washrooms are open along with four sets of portable washrooms located at Bridge Street United Church , Salvation Army Thrift Store and the meal program on Pinnacle, the Grace Inn Shelter, and the Gleaners Food Bank. Moving forward we are hoping to work out a schedule to open more public washrooms as we develop the protocols schedule to ensure proper sanitation. We will inform residents when this is in place.”
Panciuk emphasized that he realizes people are looking forward to summer activities but says they must understand this will be a little different.
The mayor also pointed out that the city has a reduced summer staff so grass cutting and other items might not be as usual.
