The COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions have taken a serious toll on Belleville’s Downtown District.
According to information being presented by the BDIA to Belleville council Monday, four restaurants and three retail businesses have or will close.
They are Cafe E, Earl and Angelo’s, Modern Cafe, Bourbon and Bean, Stuff Belleville, Tri & Run Sports, and Artists & Artisans.
To save the summer season, the BDIA is asking the city to waive many fees, and allow partial street closures and the use of Market Square on Friday nights to present Al Fresco on Front.
Small green spaces would be created in existing parking spaces, and restaurants, food trucks, vendors, and entertainers would be operating out on the streets.
