Construction of a new residential hospice along the shore of the Bay of Quinte could start this summer.
Hospice Quinte applied for and has received a building permit from the City of Quinte West.
Executive Director of Hospice Quinte Jennifer May-Anderson says the organization is now waiting for approval from the provincial government
before construction begins.
While the cost of constructing the building will be $5.8 million, much more money will be needed to furnish and equip the six-bed hospice which will be located in the area of Bayside Secondary School.
The fundraising goal remains $9.5 million and so far about 60% of that total has been donated.
May-Anderson says donations should surge as people actually see the building under construction on the site.
If all goes well it’s hoped the hospice will be ready and open by September of next year.
It will serve residents in Belleville, Quinte West, Tyendinaga Township, Tyendinaga Territory, and Deseronto.
