A series of summer camps for children in the Napanee area have been cancelled but there is some good news as well.
Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington has announced that although the COVID-19 reopening may be around the corner, the new environment in which camps operate, and the timing of the pandemic, has made it difficult to run the camp program.
Last year, Children’s Services sent 145 children to camp, but this year there will be none.
The Children’s Services has spent almost $10,000 of charitable money on such things as baby gear, food and rent support for families since January.
Most of the money comes from the annual Tree of Hope fundraising event during the Christmas season.
The plan now is to support non-contact activities, everything from clothing to online educational tools and books.
In a statement, Children’s Services has indicated, “When the summer camp becomes viable we will start the program again.”
