The Belleville Sports Hall of Fame will announce the names of their 2020 inductees soon however their acceptance speeches will have to wait.
Induction ceremonies traditionally take place in September but Hall of Fame chairman Dave Mills says due to the uncertainty related to COVID-19 they will not be held this year as planned. Mills says while it is hard to predict how things will be in September it isn’t feasible to embark on a lengthy planning process knowing it’s unlikely that large gatherings will be permitted.
Attendance at Hall of Fame induction ceremonies typically exceed 200 people.
Mills says they recognize the work done by those who have submitted nominations and will name their 2020 inductees in late June or early July. He says hopefully they can display their plaques at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre shortly after that.
The Class of 2020 will be recognized as part of the 2021 Induction Ceremony along with inductees from that year.
Mills adds the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame will also announce the recipients of the Belleville McDonald’s High School Athletes of the Year in late August.
