Three kilograms of what police suspect to be Methamphetamine were seized around 1:30 yesterday morning after OPP officers stopped a vehicle attempting to flee.
The police initially tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 401 and gave chase when the vehicle tried to escape.
Police eventually stopped it using a tire deflation device at the 401 and Wallbridge Loyalist Road.
Two men ran from the vehicle and were caught a short time later by OPP canine and emergency response units.
Thirty-year-old Derrick Veley of Loyalist Township has been charged with:
· Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking;
· Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5000, both contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
· Resist a peace officer;
· Two counts of failing to comply with probation order; and
· Failing to comply with a Recognizance, contrary to the Criminal Code.
Twenty-nine-year-old Alexander Dumouchel of Quinte West has been charged with:
· Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
· Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000;
· Resist a peace officer;
· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; and
· Flight from police, all contrary to the Criminal Code.
Both men remain in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice via video for a bail hearing.
