On Monday May 25, 2020 just after 3:30 p.m., members of The Prince Edward County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Portland Street in Picton.
Officers found the driver to be a suspended driver.
Further investigation lead to the arrest of the passenger.
As a result of the subsequent search, officers seized a number of illicit drugs and associated paraphernalia including the following:
- Digital scale
- Packaging materials
- A quantity of suspected MDMA (Ecstasy)
- A quantity of suspected cocaine
- Cell phone
- Trafficking in schedule one substance – Cocaine – Controlled Drugs and Substances
- Trafficking in schedule one substance – Methylenedioxyamphetamine (Ecstasy) – Controlled Drugs and Substances
Also charged in relation to the occurrence was Jordian Smith, age 18 from Picton, with the following offences:
- Trafficking in schedule one substance – Cocaine – Controlled Drugs and Substances
- Trafficking in schedule one substance – Methylenedioxyamphetamine – Controlled Drugs and Substances
- Fail to comply with sentence – Youth Criminal Justice Act
- Driving while under suspension
The vehicle was towed and impounded for a period of seven days.
The name of the youth is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton at a later date.
