A new housing development is in the works for Prince Edward County but no decision on its future has been made yet.
Council looked at an application for a 13-home subdivision in Consecon on Tuesday night during a virtual council meeting.
The 5.2 hectare property on the west side of the village is located north of Stinson Block Road and is currently vacant.
The numbered company proposes to build 13 single detached homes access by a new street connecting to Stinson Block Road.
Mayor Steve Ferguson stated no decision would be made during the meeting and they were simply taking comments and asking staff questions regarding the application.
Five members of the public spoke against the development citing noise and light pollution along with deception on the part of the developer who never stated the property was slated to be turned into a subdivision.
One comment was received from a local business owner who was in favour of the development because of the importance of growing for the better.
Councillor Ernie Margetson said he hopes the issues raised by neighbours will be addressed but realizes that property was always slated for development.
He and Councillor Janice Maynard did note the residents along Stinson Block Road are unanimous that they do not want street lights.
Maynard said the village could use a little injection, but did want staff to take a look into the water and drainage issues that were brought up by members of the public.
Staff said they will go back and take a look at issues such as drainage and privacy concerns and see how those issues can be addressed.
A report from staff will come back at a later date with recommendations to address concerns of residents and councillors.
