The Belleville Police Service responded to 62 calls for service from May 25, 2020 at 5 a.m. to May 26, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Driving While Prohibited
On May 25, 2020 at approximately 8:30 a.m. while on general patrol in the area of Airport Parkway, police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Police conducted a traffic stop and an investigation revealed that the driver, 40-year-old Jeremy Latchford of Trenton, was a prohibited driver Canada-wide. Mr. Latchford was arrested for Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code and was released on an Appearance Notice where he was given a court date of August 6, 2020 to face the charge.
Motor Vehicle Collision
On May 25, 2020 at 6:20 p.m., police responded to a business in the area of North Front Street regarding a two-vehicle collision that occurred in the parking lot. An investigation revealed that the at-fault driver, who failed to remain, had been driving without a licence. As a result, the at-fault driver was charged with and issued two Provincial Offences Notices for Drive No Licence and Fail to Report an accident.
City Police also report a relatively steady 24-hour period ending at 5 a.m. on May 26, 2020. Police did respond to several incidents that ended peacefully with police intervention. Those incidents included numerous noise complaints, domestics, disturbances, suspicious persons and vehicles, traffic complaints, neighbour and family disputes, animal complaints, and calls to assist ambulance.
