The COVID-19 pandemic is costing everyone a lot of money and municipalities are no different.
Quinte West council will see a staff report at its meeting Tuesday estimating the response to the pandemic will cost taxpayers close to $600,000 to the end of June and over $900,000 by the end of the year.
Municipalities are losing money in many ways, including lower interest rates, the waiving of interest and late fees, bag tag revenues, and facility and sports field rentals.
However, Quinte West staff believes the loss can be handled by increased revenues from new development and major savings on staff costs.
