The unemployment rate in the region that the Quinte area is a part of rose dramatically last month.
According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate in the Kingston/Pembroke economic region was 10%.
In March the rate was just 7.1%.
The unemployment rate for Ontario was 11.2% while the national rate was 13%.
The steep increases were caused by the sudden loss of jobs due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
