Quinte West council is being asked to support a longstanding and generous local service club as it struggles with financial issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Trenton Kiwanis Walleye World fishing derby had to be cancelled this year but the Kiwanis had already spent around $35,000 on products and services for the tournament and now will have no revenue.
Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee is recommending council approve a temporary interest free $35,000 loan to the Kiwanis Club which would be paid back after next year’s derby.
