The Mayor of Prince Edward County said at the start of a special meeting he felt a motion to discourage non-essential travel to the municipality was unnecessary and redundant following the stance take by Premier Doug Ford.
Councillors held a special virtual meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss the motion which was deferred following a meeting last week.
Mayor Steve Ferguson said he participated in a conference call with the Premier along with the mayors of 100 other rural municipalities and Ford addressed their concerns about travel to seasonal homes.
Ferguson said Ford is asking that people who can avoid unnecessary travel do so, and that those who do travel to secondary residences or cottages bring with them necessary provisions so as not to draw on local resources and everyone continue to physically distance.
The motion was passed unanimously.
