Council in Prince Edward County will take a second kick at the can to support a resolution aiming to have the province discourage non-essential travel to the municipality during the COVID-19 crisis.
Councillors met last week virtually to discuss this resolution but the majority wanted the motion reworked prior to approval.
The motion brought forward by Mayor Steve Ferguson wanted to make sure the resolution was in place prior to the Victoria Day long weekend, which is when the County typically starts seeing a boost in tourist travel.
The motion recognizes the municipality has a large number of senior citizens and that group is most vulnerable to the virus.
The resolution asks people to consider the impact of travel to Prince Edward County on the health of the local population, health care facilities and retail services and any non-essential travel to PEC be discouraged by the provincial government until additional direction to reopen the province has been provided.
Councillors will meet virtually Thursday at 3 p.m. The meeting will be live-streamed on the County’s website.
